Anoto Digital Pen Technology

One of the key productivity enhancing features of Forerun's FlexChart™ is our innovative use of Anoto Digital Pen Technology as part of the charting workflow. Use of Anoto's digital pen option with FlexChart™ enables the familiar capture of data onto a paper form at the bedside which is then exported into the FlexChart™ application. Physicians simply follow the same charting process as they would with any paper chief-complaint driven form. Using a digital pen, a physician can mark boxes and also write free text on the form. Each data field is captured independently providing the hospital with the ability to develop custom flags that support high quality chart output as well as behavior change management. Clinical decision support rule flags and reminders provide education to support your hospital's physician documentation improvement program Because we understand that interruptions and the need to move from patient to patient are common place in the emergency department, we've build in the capability that allows physicians to chart multiple patient encounters at the same time without the risk of chart or data loss. When finished, the physician docks the pen, and the data collected on the paper form for each patient is uploaded into the FlexChart™ application. This data is exported as discrete data fields, giving us the ability to leverage the full power of our Forerun ED™ platform (e.g. alerts, flags and notifications). With key clinical data having been acquired by digital pen and recorded in the FlexChart™ application, the physician can, when time permits, finish the chart at the computer using keyboard/mouse or dictation, sign and send the complete charts to the hospital's electronic medical record repository.

Other Data Capture Options

FlexChart™ also supports charting with the iPad, tablet and keyboard providing the physician with multiple options and flexibility to fit each person's individual charting preference.

FlexChart™ Application Browser Based

If the digital pen is utilized, docking the pen uploads the data captured by hand at the patient bedside into the appropriate application fields within FlexChart™ eliminating the need for duplicate data entry. Physicians can then complete, edit and share the chart information with other clinicians. Smart interfaces with nursing documentation, registration, and lab and radiology systems assure that existing clinical data is easily imported into the chart.

FlexChart™

The Forerun FlexChart™ is a web application that can be accessed from any hardware device with a browser. By capturing data at the bedside using Anoto Digital Pen Technology and by enabling physicians to easily import clinical data into the chart, we eliminate the need for redundant data entry and dramatically improve physician productivity. Physicians can view in-process and completed charts without having to click through multiple screens. The clinical staff has one location to view charts - there is no risk that the charts will be misplaced or lost. Built within the FlexChart™ application platform are a flexible set of rules based on algorithms that display real-time analysis essential for supporting productivity and quality measures. In addition to these real time rules, the FlexChart™ application platform allows for the capture of each field within the chart as discrete data giving the hospital the ability to customize flags and alert notifications, to analyze, report on and share patient information and to have the discrete data flow via interface into the hospital's electronic medical record (EMR) or other applications. Our hospital customers are offered the option to tailor the chart layout and make other choices that best fit the specific needs of their patient population and how the physicians chart those patients. FlexChart™ delivers alerts, flags and notifications to the physician to help them understand the status of the charts' completion, the rules of care for observation/admit and other customizable decision support criteria to support them in the development of a high quality chart output.

Productivity Tools

In today's fast paced, busy and over burdened emergency departments, tools that support the physician's need to be more productive in the preparation of patient charts are essential. Forerun's FlexChart™ application includes many innovative tools that seek to reduce the burden of charting, that improve the collection and presentation of clinically useful information, and help meet billing, medical-legal, and quality reporting requirements. The FlexChart™ physician documentation solution was designed by emergency department clinicians from Harvard -affiliated Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), who understand the importance of speed and quality in delivering emergency services.

Forerun Chart Management

Forerun's Chart Management provides the physician with an active list of patients, the status of his or her charts and provides links to the FlexChart™ Discharge and FlexChart™ Patient View applications. Forerun's Chart Management helps the physician ensure that charts are completed in a timely manner, alerts them to the status of completion and guides them through the process with decision support tools. This application is the gateway to understanding the real-time status of patients and their charts so as to ensure operational excellence and patient satisfaction.

FlexChart™ Patient View

FlexChart™ Patient View is the information and process management "cockpit" that delivers the essential information necessary for rapid completion, prioritization of the documentation tasks by providing a visual status of the patient care process. It presents a concise summary of the patient information clinicians need to prioritize their time, provide safe hand-off to other physicians and efficiently provide and document care.

FlexChart™ Patient Discharge

The FlexChart™ Patient Discharge module is seamlessly integrated into our FlexChart™ application allowing physicians to save considerable time transitioning from the task of patient charting to that of discharging the patient. The Patient Discharge module generates a complete discharge report package including medication reconciliation, discharge instructions and medication orders. These documents enhance and expedite the hand-off of patients to the admitting hospital department or to the patient's primary care physician. The patient receives a summary of the visit with clear instructions for his/her continued care at home.
