The Forerun ED™ Building Blocks

Our demand driven solutions are built within one or more of the five Forerun ED™ Building Block Applications. A site specific solution is developed utilizing our core Building Blocks to deliver essential information to clinicians when and where they need it and are further enhanced to address the particular needs defined by the customer. Our applications interface with primary hospital information systems (HIS) and other existing EDIS tools and are accessible through a secure web connection from any PC.

Our Five Building Blocks Applications are:

Our full suite Forerun ED™ Application which encompasses all of our Building Block Applications provides customers needing a total ED solution with a clinically focused and robust next generation EDIS.
Patient View | Department View | Triage | Discharge | Reporting
The Patient View serves as the primary patient information and process management tool for emergency staff throughout the patient's care. It presents a concise summary of the patient information clinicians need to prioritize their time and efficiently care for patients. It also enables timely, relevant communication between clinical staff within the emergency, across hospital departments, and outside the hospital. Staff can step into a case, scan the summary, and very quickly understand the state of the patient and all services relating to their care.

Links within the clinical summary provide instant access to lab details, observations, radiology films and "wet reads," medications, records of prior visits, referring primary care physician (PCP) notes, and more. The Patient View also facilitates and simplifies documentation and case management, with single-click links to charting, discharge, and reporting features, and to the department level summary screen.
The Department View presents a global summary of the emergency department service, providing real-time patient tracking in place of static greaseboards.

Typically shown on a large, flat-panel display in the emergency department, and accessible from any web-enabled PC, the continuously updated screen presents all patients and their location, status, priorities and staffing assignments.

Any member of the clinical team can view this screen and instantly understand the state of the emergency department - how many patients are waiting to be seen, their status, how long they've been waiting, who is caring for them, urgent requirements, status of labs, consults, admission requests, etc. Selecting any individual patient brings up the Patient View.
The Forerun ED™ Triage Charting tool is fast, comprehensive and efficient, providing the basis for effective sign-outs, handoffs, and key information for discharge.

To begin with, the module integrates nursing and physician documentation to eliminate redundant documentation. The chart design enables the clinician to choose between multiple input options (import from the prior notes, templates, keyboard entry, handwriting recognition, dictation, or keyboard entry) to accurately and quickly record the patient encounter.

The template structure cues the clinician to document items that are required for complete and accurate billing, while free dictation or voice recognition allows the chart to capture the full spectrum and richness of clinical information. And because the charting module is fully integrated with the Forerun ED™ Patient View, documentation of laboratory and radiology data is fast, complete and accurate.

In addition, the data structure of the Forerun ED™ chart is amenable to real-time analysis, so the chart itself can provide cues for quality measures (CMS core measures, clinical pathways, etc.), medical-legal aids and documentation completeness.
Forerun ED™ provides a complete patient discharge module, including medication reconciliation, discharge instructions, and medication orders.

Medication reconciliation captures a complete, accurate list of current patient medications, updates the list through emergency department treatment, allows physicians to make appropriate changes, and communicates the updated list as part of the discharge process. As part of the discharge process, the emergency physician can quickly review, change, and order medications.

The Forerun ED™ generates a complete discharge report, expediting the hand-off discussion with the admitting hospital department or with the patient's primary care physician. The patient receives a summary of the visit, with clear instructions for his/her continued care at home.
Because Forerun ED™ timestamps every patient and provider event and collects all related clinical data, the system provides clinical and business management personnel with a complete source of information for their analysis and reporting needs.

All Forerun data is accessible via SQL and other data access methods, enabling hospitals to use standard industry analytic and reporting tools.

In addition, Forerun works with client hospitals to define and create pre-formatted reports, such as the nurse staffing summary and various compliance reports for select quality measures. Forerun ED™ captures substantial patient data related to Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organization (JCAHO) core measurements; it provides clear records for any "Present on Admission" patient conditions in the emergency department ensuring that hospitals will receive compensation for their treatment. It prepares and monitors reportable quality measures that will allow Forerun users to be prepared for future "Pay-for-Performance" initiatives in healthcare as they take hold.
